Operational OSH management systems for the world's highest-risk industries – underground and surface mining, oil & gas upstream and downstream, large-scale construction, and tunnelling. Embedded advisory: we work inside the operation, alongside the team, not from a desk in another country.
External audit has a place in occupational health and safety governance. It is not, however, an operational discipline. An audit tells an operator what happened last quarter. It does not change what happens next shift, and it does not survive its own delivery.
Our practice does not audit. We embed. We work inside the operation – at the rock face, on the rig, at the heading, in the workshop – designing and embedding the OSH management system that operates between audits. The deliverable is a functioning operational discipline, not a binder.
The work is concentrated in the four sectors where the consequence of getting it wrong is irreversible: underground and surface mining, hydrocarbon upstream and downstream operations, large-scale construction, and tunnelling. Embedded advisory engagements run on multi-year cycles, with progressive transfer of the discipline to the operator's internal HSE team.
An OSH management system that does not change what happens at the rock face, the rig floor, or the heading is decorative. We design backwards from the workface.
We work alongside the operator's HSE team for the duration of the mandate. Knowledge transfers; dependency does not. The team operates the system after we leave.
Generic OSH frameworks do not control specific hazards. We work down to the unit operation – this shaft, this rig, this heading – where the risk actually exists.
Site walk-through, unit-operation observation, risk-register baseline, and HSE-team capability review. The risk lives in the specifics – we start there.
Critical-control identification, verification architecture, and the operational instrumentation that makes control performance visible at the workface, every shift.
Permit-to-work, risk register, contractor management, and shift-level governance – designed to run inside the operator's existing management cadence, not parallel to it.
Progressive handover to internal HSE leadership. The operator runs the system; the practice steps back. Knowledge transfers; dependency does not.
Senior advisory on operational OSH across the Southern Africa Miners Association membership – gold, platinum, coal, and diamond operations across ten SADC countries. Dust and noise programmes, contractor governance, and the regional surveillance architecture that wraps around them.
Visiting Professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, advising upstream and downstream operators on operational OSH systems, hydrocarbon-exposure governance, and the integration of process safety with workforce-health management in GCC operations.
Embedded OSH advisory across a multi-contractor tunnelling and large-civil programme – silica and diesel-particulate matter programmes, confined-space governance, contractor pre-qualification architecture, and the surveillance layer covering a peak workforce of over twenty thousand.
An OSH audit is a photograph. An operational OSH system is the physics of the work. We work on the physics.
Every embedded engagement begins with a 45-minute consultation. We discuss the operation, the critical risk profile, and what a working OSH discipline at your site would look like in twelve months.
