Operational OSH, embedded.
Not audited.

Operational OSH management systems for the world's highest-risk industries – underground and surface mining, oil & gas upstream and downstream, large-scale construction, and tunnelling. Embedded advisory: we work inside the operation, alongside the team, not from a desk in another country.

The Brief

An audit is a photograph of the past. An operational OSH system is the physics of what happens next shift.

External audit has a place in occupational health and safety governance. It is not, however, an operational discipline. An audit tells an operator what happened last quarter. It does not change what happens next shift, and it does not survive its own delivery.

Our practice does not audit. We embed. We work inside the operation – at the rock face, on the rig, at the heading, in the workshop – designing and embedding the OSH management system that operates between audits. The deliverable is a functioning operational discipline, not a binder.

The work is concentrated in the four sectors where the consequence of getting it wrong is irreversible: underground and surface mining, hydrocarbon upstream and downstream operations, large-scale construction, and tunnelling. Embedded advisory engagements run on multi-year cycles, with progressive transfer of the discipline to the operator's internal HSE team.

Principle · 01
The system runs at the workface, not at head office.

An OSH management system that does not change what happens at the rock face, the rig floor, or the heading is decorative. We design backwards from the workface.

Principle · 02
Embedded, not external.

We work alongside the operator's HSE team for the duration of the mandate. Knowledge transfers; dependency does not. The team operates the system after we leave.

Principle · 03
Risk lives in the specifics.

Generic OSH frameworks do not control specific hazards. We work down to the unit operation – this shaft, this rig, this heading – where the risk actually exists.

What we deliver

Six lines of operational OSH advisory, on site.

Embedded engagements draw on these six service lines in combination. We work to a fixed mandate length and a documented handover to internal HSE leadership.
i.
Operational OSH management systems
Design, embedding, and progressive transfer of operational OSH management systems – risk registers, permit-to-work, critical-control verification, and shift-level governance. ISO 45001 aligned, ICMM informed, built for the unit operation.
Deliverables OSH system Permit framework Verification plan
ii.
Underground & surface mining
Mine-site OSH advisory across gold, platinum, coal, diamond, and base-metal operations – ventilation design review, dust and noise programmes, ground-control HSE interface, and contractor-management architecture.
Deliverables Site OSH plan Ventilation review Contractor frame
iii.
Oil & gas upstream / downstream
Upstream drilling and production OSH, downstream refining and petrochemical OSH – process-safety interface, hydrocarbon-exposure programmes, contractor safety, and major-accident-hazard (MAH) governance. GCC operator and ministry experience.
Deliverables MAH brief Exposure plan Contractor system
iv.
Tunnelling & civil works
Tunnel-and-civil OSH advisory – TBM and drill-and-blast operations, silica and diesel-particulate programmes, ground stability OSH interface, confined-space governance, and the surveillance architecture that goes around them.
Deliverables Tunnel OSH plan DPM programme Confined-space
v.
Critical-risk & major-hazard governance
Operator-level critical-risk programmes – identification, control verification, learning-from-event architecture, and the integration of process-safety and occupational-health risk in operational decision-making.
Deliverables Critical-risk reg. Control verif. LFE protocol
vi.
Contractor & workforce health
Contractor OSH governance at scale – pre-qualification, on-boarding, in-life management, and exit. Workforce-health programmes for fatigue, heat stress, and chemical exposure across multi-employer sites typical of the high-hazard sectors.
Deliverables Contractor std. Heat programme Fatigue rules
The Method

How a high-hazard mandate actually runs.

Embedded sector engagements – whether a single mine, an upstream operator, or a multi-site programme – move through the same four stages. The sector changes; the discipline does not.
01
Stage · Diagnose
Walk the operation

Site walk-through, unit-operation observation, risk-register baseline, and HSE-team capability review. The risk lives in the specifics – we start there.

02
Stage · Measure
Engineer the controls

Critical-control identification, verification architecture, and the operational instrumentation that makes control performance visible at the workface, every shift.

03
Stage · Engineer
Embed the system

Permit-to-work, risk register, contractor management, and shift-level governance – designed to run inside the operator's existing management cadence, not parallel to it.

04
Stage · Embed
Transfer & withdraw

Progressive handover to internal HSE leadership. The operator runs the system; the practice steps back. Knowledge transfers; dependency does not.

Recent & current

Three engagements, in shape.

Sector mandates – partner-cleared or anonymised – across mining, hydrocarbons, and large civil works.

Engage the practice

Speak with the director about a sector mandate.

Every embedded engagement begins with a 45-minute consultation. We discuss the operation, the critical risk profile, and what a working OSH discipline at your site would look like in twelve months.
